OK, I’m all about putting your business on auto-pilot, so why talk about marketing so much?

A lot of clients think that putting your business on auto-pilot means making things more efficient. While that’s certainly true, there’s no point in making a stupid process uber-efficient. My point being that there are two parts to putting your small business on auto-pilot….

  1. Doing things right (efficiency)
  2. Doing the right things (effectiveness)

Only at the intersection of efficiency + effectiveness will you find success.

John Jantsch, author of Duct Tape Marketing (a good book that I recommend for any small business owner) says it best:

…no matter what your business claims to do or provide, you’re actually in the marketing business…Think about it for a moment. Do you really have a business without being able to reach and motivate a customer?

Marketing is all about effectiveness.

Stop wasting time trying to get people that don’t want your solution to buy your products and services. What if you only ever had to deal with people that want your stuff and you could cut out dealing with chaff that don’t? That’s a huge time-saver.

So, you don’t need to worry about marketing…

as long as you’re not concerned with wasting a lot of time and money.
